When it comes to haircuts and colours, there are always fads doing the rounds. From Rachel from F.R.I.E.N.D.S’s iconic layers to all kinds of braids and twists, we’re seen a bunch of popular hair moments that came, had their time in the spotlight and moved on.
Bangs, however, have always been one of those classic styles that have stood their ground. Sure, there have been variations of them time and again but the verdict is clear: This versatile ‘do can be sported by anyone. Think of all lengths and hair textures and types, bangs look great on everyone! If you’re looking to try out the style, scroll for some hair inspiration…
Bangs inspiration for those with short hair
Baby bangs
Leave it to the iconic Audrey Hepburn to consistently be able to carry off bangs for almost her whole career in cinema. We especially love this baby fringe variation that ends up grazing the skin just above her brows. This style needs a fair bit of maintenance to look this way but the end result is so chic and worth it!
Micro bangs
Zendaya’s red bangs caused a bit of a stir back in 2018 when she rolled up in style to the MET Gala with this super short style. This hairstyle serves as proof that wash-and-go can look just as good as styled hair, especially if you have shorter, wavy textured hair.
Sleek bangs
Steal another page from Zendaya’s mane look book because she just looks amazing with fringes! As much as we love her curly, wavy hair, we can’t say we’re not fans of this sleek blunt that is paired with pin-straight bangs.
Piecey Bangs
If there is anyone who breaks the stereotypes that bangs suit a certain age, it is the most successful momager of all time, Kris Jenner. This well-defined, chunky fringe looks best when paired with messy, layered hair. Simply get the look by using a leave-in conditioner or a styling cream to play up your fringe.
Bangs inspiration for those with medium-length hair
Choppy bangs
Actor Priyanka Chopra’s bangs have been left choppy with longer pieces on the sides to help blend into the rest of her hair. To style them, we recommend using a shine-boosting hair product, a round brush, and a hairdryer.
Side swept bangs
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s hair isn’t falling flat thanks to the change in her part and the face-framing strands that help give the illusion of fullness.
Bits and bobs fringe
Selena Gomez is coming through with a great example of the fact that a wide range of hair types can wear bangs. People think that having curls automatically takes you out of the running from having any type of fringe but, as you can see here, it's a great style to pair with a textured hair type.
Faux bangs
Supermodel Bella Hadid is seen here flaunting a faux fringe. If you’re someone who wants to get on the bandwagon but is getting cold feet, this is a great option to try before committing to the bangs life. Remember, face-framing strands when paired with a blunt fringe help it to blend in.

Curtain bangs
Curtain bangs are synonymous with Camilla Cabello who pulls them off perfectly every single time! Middle parts are very on-trend so if you’re someone who feels it is impossible to break up with your parting, you’re in luck. Going for curtain bangs leaves tons of room for styling versatility, think a side sweep or twists held in place with cute butterfly clips.
Wispier centre bangs
Even if you have thicker hair like Jameela Jamil, you can easily make bangs work. Ask your stylist to lighten up the load at the centre of your fringe to give it an airy, lighter, and wispier feel.
Waterfall side-sweep
Another star who sports bangs on the regular is Jenifer Lopez. For a similar cascading effect, begin by curling the face-framing sections of your hair with a curling iron and then go on to gather the rest of your mane in a bun. Opt for a deep side part and in no time, you’ll be ready with a JLo-esque hairdo.
Braids and bangs
Let your bangs take centre stage and pair them with a braid. For a dose of glam, opt for a low plait like Lea Michele did and your fringe will stand out and how!
How to manage overgrown bangs
With the long face-framing strands being super on-trend, you can simply use what you have to make a statement with your tresses. If your front layers of bangs are a bit grown out, we recommend you let them cascade down from a side or zigzag parting or gracefully sweep them across your face as seen here.
How to style bangs
1. Arm yourself with a hairdryer and a brush to style your bangs as soon as you step out of the shower. This is important because your fringe dries faster than the rest of your mane and will take on a shape of its own if you don’t step in.
2. In case you don’t have a hairdryer, simply comb your hair and wear a cap backwards to make sure your fringe dries up in place.
3. Another tip? Style your bangs in twists and let them dry. This will ensure they’re less frizzy and will prevent cowlicks.
Bangs work for everyone, you just have to find the right hairstyle that works for your length and face shape. If you’re still on the fence about going for a chop, take your time! Bangs do get oiler faster than the rest of your mane, mainly because they come in contact with the grease and sweat on your forehead so even if you’re less strict with your hair wash routine, note that you may have to make an exception for your bangs.
FAQs
· Will bangs make my forehead break out?
If your hair and scalp aren’t clean then yes! You do need to make sure they’re clean to avoid acne. Plus, make sure you’re careful with the amount of moisturiser you use while moisturising your forehead and styling products while doing your hair. You don’t want your skincare transferring to your bangs or your styling products settling down on your forehead.
· How much styling product should I use?
It is advised to use a regular amount of styling product on all of your hair and then apply the remaining formula on your bangs. If you use too much, you’ll end up with greasy hair.
