An all-women panel has been chosen by the Keralan Pala Bar Association to hold key positions within its executive committee. At a time when the movement for more women representation in bar associations is gaining traction nationwide, the election filled 15 positions. Cases to guarantee women’s involvement in leadership positions within bar associations are presently being considered by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ordered that at least one-third of the Supreme Court Bar Association's positions be set aside for women attorneys. Later on, this directive was expanded to include a number of additional bar associations, including Karnataka and the Delhi High Court. In light of this, the Keralan Pala Bar Association’s election of an all-women panel is especially noteworthy since it surpasses the required one-third reservation for women and establishes a strong precedent for gender-inclusive leadership in the legal industry.

Advocate Usha Menon is the head of the recently elected panel with 163 votes. Advocate Josekutty Kuzhithottam, her opponent, only received 70 votes, compared to her 163 votes.
