India is making small but efficient strides when it comes to monitoring their carbon footprint, and if everything goes according to plan, Bihar will become India’s first state to have two green energy efficient towns—Rajgir and Bodh Gaya. Through a first of its kind renewable energy project, the two towns will receive solar energy from 2023.
After these two towns, many important government offices in Patna—including the governor house, the Patna High Court, the Bihar Museum, and Vidhyut Bhawan, will also receive 24-hour green energy with the help of the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
To kick start this renewable energy project, the state government will construct the solar energy plants on land available in the Lakhisarai and Bhagalpur districts. Bihar’s secretary of energy, Sanjeev Hans is said to have confirmed that the 500-megawatt solar energy plants will be set up in the aforementioned districts. In a statement to The New Indian Express, Hans said, “The Solar Energy Corporation of India has agreed to provide green energy and develop the system. The project will get started by June 2023.”
He also added that the excess solar energy generated will also be used to run the turbines for water supply and other electricity-driven mechanisms.
