A first-ever season-fluid phygital fashion week is being presented jointly by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Lakmé Fashion Week. Day 1 of this one-of-a-kind showcase saw designers Shantanu and Nikhil, Arpita Mehta, Pankaj and Nidhi, Bloni and Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini present their collections.
While all showcases were essentially distinct from each other, themes of fluidity, optimism, inclusivity, and nature-inspired elements were inherent.
A homage to the ever-changing nature of the world, Anamika Khanna’s (who kick-started the season) awe-inspiring video showcase left us with a powerful message of inspiration and creativity. The presentation was an optimistic view of what lies ahead in times of uncertainty and the importance of what we leave behind.
Along similar lines was designer duo Pankaj and Nidhi’s new collection, Kaleido. Their colourful prism-themed prints, gleaming fabrics and fluid silhouettes reflected a sense of optimism and hope. Their unconventional collection was complemented by an inclusive line-up of models, a refreshing addition.
Speaking of inclusivity, emerging designer Bloni’s showcase was as gender fluid as one can imagine. The silhouettes also had a hint of oversized structure and tech-generated fabrics combined with the use of crafts like crochet and tie and dye.
Designer Arpita Mehta used four prints, each representing characteristics latent within women and the varied roles a woman plays. Her prints, combined with four lively colours, conveyed positivity and hope.
Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini used opulent fabrics, intricate details and dainty additions to express their inspiration from all things loved. Their collection, called, Sweet Reminiscences, was stimulating and imaginative. The optimistic showcase also included an inclusive round-up of models.
This season’s Gen-next programme winners, Raffughar and Rahul Dasgupta, took inspiration from the Himalayan region and the sea respectively. Elements of nature were brilliantly translated in their collections using motifs and textured fabrics.
SN by Shantanu and Nikhil, a bridge-to-luxury brand started by the designer pair showcased safari-inspired earthy tones and unique silhouettes. The collection showcased a sense of individualism keeping with a hint of celebration wear, in true millennial style.
