Each month Her Circle throws a spotlight on a chosen theme of the month. As September commences our thoughts go out to those we have lost to the glum destiny of suicide. Bright minds, cheerful faces, successful names, promising talents—those with seemingly negligible reason to take their own lives have time and again left behind their families, friends and in some cases, fans, bereaved with one thought—if only we knew the signs.
Mental health, according to the WHO, causes 8,00,000 people to commit suicide every year; that adds up to approximately 2,200 people per day.
According to a recent report, suicides in India, sometimes referred to as the world’s suicide capital increased 3.4 per cent from 1.34 lakh in 2018 to 1.39 lakh in 2020.
This month, we at Her Circle pledge to give you insightful information, statistics, strategies, solutions, expert speak, one-on-ones and the promise to hear you as mental wellbeing takes centre stage. Remember to reach out and ask for support—that’s the bravest thing to do.
